Who is The Coach of The Indian Cricket Team?

India is undeniably among the best teams in the world when it comes to the sport of cricket. One of the primary reasons for this is that the team features several players considered to be among the best in the world.

India has a long history of producing some of the best players in the world, both in batting and bowling.

These players include the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Anil Kumble, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, and Mohammad Azharuddin, amongst many others.

In May of 1926, India was admitted into the club as a full member and was given test status. After England, Australia, South Africa, the West Indies, and New Zealand, India became the sixth team to be granted full membership in the organization.

When discussing the progression of cricket in India, one must begin with 1983, the year that India won the global championship under the direction of Kapil Dev.

Then, in 2007 and 2011, MS Dhoni guided India to triumph, winning the Twenty20 World Cup and the One-Day International World Cup, respectively.

Many times, we have witnessed former Indian players go on to become coaches for the Indian national team. This has happened on several occasions.

The typical length of employment for a head coach is two years, but it is not unheard of for coaches to remain in their positions for far longer. Now, look at the head coaches in charge of the Indian squad over the years.

PR Man Singh between 1983 to 1987

When India triumphed over the West Indies in the final ODI World Cup in 1983, they wrote themselves into the annals of cricketing lore. That match featured the single most memorable occasion in the annals of Indian cricket.

Many people did not anticipate that India would finish in the top four. But what happened after that is old news. Everyone on the team put in a lot of effort, and the result was a successful team effort.

One individual, however, who did not receive nearly enough recognition was India's coach, PR Man Singh. During the 1983 World Cup, he oversaw the Indian national team as their manager. In addition, Man Singh was India's coach during the 1987 World Cup, which they won and advanced to the semifinals.

Lalchand Rajput between 2007 to 2008

Lalchand Rajput was the third. In 2007 and 2008, Sourav Ganguly was the Indian one-day international team captain, while John Wright was India's head coach. This enabled India to go to the 2003 ODI World Cup finals.

But at the next ODI World Cup in 2007, India was eliminated from the competition before reaching the group stage. Rahul Dravid led the team as captain, and Greg Chappell was in charge of coaching the team.

As a result, MS Dhoni was responsible for leading India's very young team that competed in the 2007 Twenty20 World Cup. As the team's head coach, Lalchand Rajput accompanied them on their journey.

But none could have predicted that particular team's ability to rewrite history. MS Dhoni and Lalchand Rajput cemented their status as two of the most successful captains and head coaches in Indian cricket with their performances during the Twenty20 World Cup, which India ultimately won.

Gary Kirsten between 2008 to 2011

Gary Kirsten, a former captain of South Africa, took over as the head coach of the Indian team when Lalchand Rajput stepped down from his position. The most difficult obstacle for him to overcome was India's inability to defend their T20 championship in 2009 successfully.

The One-Day International World Cup in 2011 was the next significant event in the sport, and it was held in India. Therefore, it was a fantastic opportunity for the Indian cricket team, which is captained by MS Dhoni, to build a name for themselves at their stadium.

And that is exactly what transpired. India was the first team to win the World Cup on its land when they did so in 2011 when they took home the trophy. As a result of this accomplishment, Gary Kirsten has solidified his status as India's most accomplished coach.

Ravi Shastri between 2017 to 2021

The game has seen some of the most aggressive captains in its history, and Virat Kohli was one of them. The Indian cricket team was able to do a great deal more than they had been able to before he took charge of the team.

And during that period, the support of the head coach, Ravi Shastri, was a big reason he could express himself in the way he wanted to. As a player and as a captain, Shastri was always a lively character during the game.

This was true for both of his roles. Together with Virat, he brought about a complete shift in the mentality of the Indian team. After Anil Kumble stood down from his position as head coach in 2017, Shastri was able to begin his term.

Since then, India has witnessed a lot of outstanding performances. Although Shastri did not lead India to victory in any major ICC tournament during his tenure as head coach, India maintained their position as the best test team in the world for six consecutive years. After the Twenty20 World Cup in 2021, Shastri decided to stand away.
